If you’re Fordham and you want a successful head coach, then there’s plenty of routes you can go. There are a great number of D2 or lower-level head coaches that would jump at a chance to coach at Fordham, but we’re going to focus on a deserving head coach from the Patriot League instead.

After playing his college ball at Penn, Langel reunited with his coach Fran Dunphy, joining his staff at his alma mater and later at Temple. The former sharpshooting guard played a significant role in Temple’s success in the late 2000’s, which was enough to earn him the Colgate job in 2011. With the Raiders, Langel slowly built a strong program, one that has won the Patriot League in each of the last two seasons, and looks in prime shape to make it a third straight year. Colgate is 73-35 in the last four seasons.

Langel may be satisfied staying at Colgate or he may be waiting for the right job to come along, but Fordham might be the type of job to woo him away from the Raiders. Success didn’t come overnight, but the 43-year old helped Colgate win their first conference titles in nearly 25 years and has been named the conference’s top coach in each of the last three.

It’s fair to wonder how he’d fare on a nightly basis against much better programs in the A10, but he’s certainly proven himself enough to deserve a shot like this.
