Luke Murray

If he said yes right now, Murray is probably one of the coaches I would hire immediately for the Fordham job if they could fill it tomorrow. He’s never been a head coach, but has been rising the assistant coaching ranks in recent seasons and is certainly deserving of his moment.

Murray has worked for Sean Miller, Pat Skerry, and Dan Hurley before spending the last six years on Chris Mack’s staff at Xavier and Louisville. He’s learned and grown plenty in his career, and has played a phenomenal role in building, coaching, and recruiting, especially these last few years with the Cardinals. He’s recently been named one of the best recruiters in the nation and has done fantastic work with players like Jordan Nwora throughout his career.

Last season, Murray was popping up for nearly every mid-major opening as a candidate, but this Fordham opening could be one that gets him to leave the Cardinals. If Murray can continue to recruit at a high level and develop the talent he lands in New York, then there’s reason to believe that he can turn Fordham into a contender in the A10. There may be other, perhaps better job openings for Murray to consider this offseason, but the New York native will certainly get his chance very soon.
