NCAA Basketball: Ranking the 10 finalists for 2020-21 Bob Cousy Award
2. Jalen Suggs – Gonzaga Bulldogs
Jalen Suggs a 6’4 205-pound guard from Gonzaga has been flat out great this year, he’s been a part of Gonzaga’s three-headed monster and a huge reason why the team is currently undefeated and number 1 in the country. He figures to be a top 3-4 pick in the 2021 NBA draft. Suggs is averaging 14.1 points to go along with 5.3 rebounds and 4.8 assists. He’s also a quality defender that has shown the ability to shoot off the dribble and finish around the rim.
But perhaps his best skill is his passing ability. He is great at passing the ball ahead in transition and does a great job observing the defense on ball screens to find his open teammates. He’s gotta become a more consistent shooter at the next level but he’s a really good college player and 2nd on my Cousy award list.
1. Jared Butler – Baylor Bears
The player that I would vote for right now to win the Bob Cousy Award is Jared Butler, a 6’3 195-pound guard from Baylor. Baylor is the undefeated number 2 team in the country and 2nd in Kenpom. Butler is 16.8 averaging points 3.5 rebounds and 5.4 assists per game and is the leader of the Bears.
He’s a very good shooter shooting 48% from three on six attempts but is a high IQ player that is very crafty with the ball in his hands. Butler can also create his own shot off the dribble. He’s a pretty good passer as well who does a solid job defending due again his high IQ. Butler is really good.
There are not many weaknesses in his game other than he’s not super athletic and he turns the ball over a little too much. But he’s a really good scorer that can score in different ways. He’s strong, a good passer and defender. He’s the best player on one of the best two teams in the country and will be an All-American.
