Big 12 Basketball power rankings: Oklahoma climbs after SEC invasion
By Andrew Tineo
Previous games: 59-51 win over TCU, 61-80 loss to No. 18 Tennessee
Next games: Tuesday vs. Kansas State, Saturday at. No.11 West Virginia
The downward trajectory continues for the Jayhawks. They ended the three-game losing streak on Thursday to TCU, 59-51 in Lawrence. Even with shooting four of 13 from beyond the arc, it was David McCormack that led the way with 15 points.
Even with the struggle of three-point shooting, Kansas got clutch shots when they needed to from McCormack and Ochai Agbaji. Jalen Wilson had his worst game in a Kansas uniform with zero of six from the field and four rebounds, to two turnovers.
The win would not start a streak, however, as Tennessee smacked the Jayhawks. Yves Pons has been the Jayhawks kryptonite as it’s the second time he has performed well against Kansas. After scoring 24 against them last year, he added 17 more on Saturday.
Pons was seven of nine from the field and even connected on his two three-pointers he attempted. Kansas three-point shooting woes carried over from Thursday as they missed their first six attempts. They would finish six of 24 from beyond the arc and get out-hustled throughout.
Tennessee won the rebounding battle, 38-23 and the Vols shot 61 percent from beyond the arc.
Kansas should have their way with Kansas State but does not get easy on Saturday. Kansas is in danger of not only being out of the Top 25 but also on the bubble for the NCAA Tournament.
