Pac-12 Basketball: Underappreciated player from each team for 2020-21
Stanford Cardinal – Jaiden Delaire
The Stanford Cardinal 11-7 overall and 7-5 in conference play have been away from home the whole season due to their county’s COVID 19 protocols. Until February 2nd Stanford didn’t play a home game the whole year. The Cardinal has also struggled with injuries. Daejon Davis, Bryce Willis, and potential 2021 NBA draft lottery pick Ziare Williams are currently injured.
Spencer Jones is another Stanford player who has missed time lately due to injuries. With so many players being out of the lineup other guys have had to step up. Jaiden Delaire has turned into a really important player for Stanford this season.
Delarie has improved significantly from the year before. His efficiency is higher at 49.6 from 50.7 percent in the field last year, he’s currently shooting 40.0 percent from three right now and 28.6 from three the year before, and he’s become a free throw shooter going 69 percent to 76;7 percent. He’s also improved his scoring up from 6.1 to 13.3. Having a 6’9 guy that can shoot from three and also score in different ways is important for any team.
It will be interesting to see Delaire’s role when the other players return and get healthy. Regardless he is a guy who you should keep your eye on.
