Big Ten Basketball: Rivals Michigan, Ohio State leads latest power rankings
By Adam Childs
Maryland isn’t a great team but they have found a way to pull off some big upsets on the road. They have won at Illinois, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. But they are very inconsistent.
Maryland fans have got to be happy with how competitive the team has been this year, but they have still got to wonder if Mark Turgeon should be around much longer.
He led the Terrapins to a share of the Big Ten title last year but has quickly fallen yet again this year. They have some decent players, but it still seems like they lack the growth a team needs to be consistently good.
This Maryland team isn’t a pushover but it is definitely not a team that scares anybody in the Big Ten.
This is the ultimate tale of two teams. If Minnesota only played at home they would be easily a top-five team or better in the Big Ten. If they only played on the road they would be last in the Big Ten.
The Gophers have only lost once at home, but have yet to win on the road. Marcus Carr is one of the best in the Big Ten, but for some reason, he hasn’t been able to lead his team to a road win.
Carr, when he includes the rest of his team is a gamechanger, but too often tries to do everything himself. He has enough role players around him for this team to beat anybody, but they need to figure out a way to win away from the Barn.
Minnesota is in good shape to make the tournament, but a road win or two would solidify that bid.
