Big 12 Basketball: West Virginia, Oklahoma rises in new power rankings
By Andrew Tineo
Previous games: 66-78 loss to Kansas, 67-60 win over Kansas State.
Next games: Tuesday vs. Iowa State, Saturday at. Baylor.
The Cowboys looked like they were starting to get on a role and were hoping for a season sweep of Kansas. Due to a poor shooting night and 18 turnovers, they were unable to get the job done in Lawrence.
Cade Cunningham got his, finishing with 26 points, nine rebounds, two steals, and two blocks. It was not all positives for the former No. 1 overall recruit, as he shot just 38 percent from the field and had seven turnovers. The bench for Oklahoma State did not play well as they were just 2-13 from the field and had eight of the teams 24 fouls.
Rondel Walker, who has been a bright spot on the season was not his normal self. Walker finished with 1 point in 22 minutes played.
It was not the prettiest of performances against Kansas State, but it was primarily led by defense. An area of the team that has been inconsistent since the beginning of February started to generate stops and forced turnovers at a high clip.
It was a group effort from the Cowboys as seven players scored six or more, led by Cunningham, with 15 points.
According to Joe Lunardi, Oklahoma State is pegged to be an eight seed, prior to the conclusion of the game. With the win and some losses surrounding them, the Cowboys are hoping to elevate from that seed.
