McNeil’s five three-pointers and 26 points are both career highs, as he was a big-time player on Tuesday.
There was no shying of fouls, as the teams combined for 47 on the game. West Virginia got favorable free throw opportunities as West Virginia got sent to the line 39 times. The Mountaineers almost had as many free throw attempts as field-goal attempts.
West Virginia in the first half, did not have the same success from beyond the arc. the Mountaineers were just 1-9 from beyond the arc in the first 20 minutes. Culver had led the way, with 13 points on 6-10 from the field.
In all, but looked like West Virginia would add to their resume and be a trendy pick for the Final Four. Although the possibility is still there, their record took a hit on Saturday.
The Mountaineers had been chasing Oklahoma throughout the entire overtime period and got a clutch shot from McBride. However, in double overtime, they had a lead, that was lost. Even with five timeouts in the final 50 seconds, Jalen Bridges shot in the final seconds could not fall.
West Virginia got heroics from the trio of McBride, McNeil, and Derek Culver. They combined for 69 of the team’s 90 points, including all seven three-pointers from McBride and McNeil.
There has not been any information given out about re-scheduling with Baylor. However, West Virginia still has a showdown with Texas in Austin.
