NCAA Basketball: Analyzing new options for 5-star 2022 recruit Enoch Boakye
After losing Joel Ntambwe to the transfer portal early in the season, the Red Raiders have used VCU transfer Marcus Santos-Silva as the lone big in the rotation, while using a number of small-ball lineups to remain effective. It’s worked thanks to very talented wing forwards such as Micah Peavy and Terrence Shannon Jr. to keep them top-20 good.
However, a lack of frontcourt depth could very well be their downfall in March. When Texas Tech went to the national title game just a couple of seasons ago, they had Tariq Owens holding down the frontcourt along with other solid frontcourt players. They made an effort this offseason to land more bigs but came up just short with transfers such as Matt Haarms.
Assuming that Santos-Silva leaves after this season, Texas Tech will be in the market to land more frontcourt talent. They have none in the 2021 class, with just four-star small forward Jaylon Tyson committed. Boakye would be a nice defensive anchor for the team while working alongside a bevy of talented guards and wings in the offense.
The only way playing time wouldn’t be available would be if the Red Raiders land a surefire starter before Boakye makes his decision. So choosing to reclassify and then picking a team would have to come sooner than later for this Big 12 program to be a factor.
