Maryland

The Big Ten is going to have plenty of representation this year in the NCAA Tournament. As we near March Madness, the question remains on how many of these teams will make the Big Dance. Several have already cemented their ticket, but the bubble remains a sketchy place for Maryland and a few other programs.

The Terrapins get themselves three wins this week, with Eric Ayala and Aaron Wiggins in a starring role all week. None of these games were particularly challenging, but Sunday’s home win over Minnesota and a pair of victories over Nebraska helped fill Maryland’s schedule and got them a number of wins.

Maryland is 13-10, with a now improved 7-9 mark in Big Ten play. What will help the Terrapins with the Selection Committee is their four ranked wins, including road wins at Wisconsin, Illinois, and Minnesota. Consistency has been an issue, but this Maryland team has shown it can hang with nearly everybody, having a close game with Ohio State just a couple of weeks ago.

Maryland’s on the bubble, especially as that below .500 mark in Big Ten play will make some people weary. With four games left on their schedule, they’ll take all the wins they can get, though all the games are winnable and against unranked opponents. The Terrapins can get the job done, but can they play consistently enough ball down the stretch?
