West Virginia adds another astronomical come from behind win
It seems since the loss to Baylor, Texas has started to malfunction. That was not more noticeable than against West Virginia when the Mountaineers slowly chipped away from a 19 point lead.
Texas played their best first half of the season, shooting 70% from the field and scored 53 in the first half.
Meanwhile, West Virginia shot just 37.5% from the field and 3-10 from the field from Taz Sherman.
It was just about four minutes into the second half, where Texas was still up 14, that the tide of the game completely changed. Texas teammates Courtney Ramey and Andrew Jones got into a verbal confrontation, that nearly got physical.
Even with the altercation, Ramey had a great game, finishing with 28 points on 9-13 from the field, both career highs.
West Virginia was able to feast off of the negative energy from Texas and was helped a lot, by the lack of discipline from Texas.
West Virginia was able to get to the free throw line 37 times and made 26 of them attempts, compared to Texas four made free throws on 10 attempts.
Derek Culver and Sherman made six apiece, while Emmitt Matthews Jr. and Miles McBride both made five free throws. Both teams shot lights out from beyond the arc as each team made 10 or more three-pointers.
Sean McNeil had a big second half, after going scoreless in the first 20. He went 5-7 from the field and had 16 of West Virginia’s 41 points in the final 20 minutes,
The Mountaineers are the only team to not play Baylor and will have the opportunity to do so this upcoming Thursday in Waco. That game is the biggest of the year for West Virginia and would shake up the conference with an upset win.
