Three teams are safely in the field of 68 regardless of what happens in the conference tournament: Villanova, Creighton, and Connecticut. However, the play of St. John’s, Seton Hall, and Xavier this week will certainly contain the opportunity for each team to elevate their resumes and sneak into the NCAA Tournament.
Villanova (3 seed), Creighton (5 seed), and Connecticut (7/8 seed) have been consistently viewed nationally in terms of their final seeding announced on Selection Sunday. The same can be said for Xavier, who is being mentioned as one of the last four teams selected into the tournament field.
Ahead of the tournament kicking off, both St. John’s and Seton Hall are viewed as well within reach of obtaining a late bid. Currently in the top 12 programs not selected to be in the tournament, winning 1-2 unexpected games each could prove sufficient enough to boost the Big East’s count to 5 when the official bracket is revealed.
