Top Teams

Team to Beat: San Diego State

San Diego State was the best team in the regular season last year, and are again this year entering the conference tournament. Are they as talented as last year? No, but still are a very talented group who really gets after it, and into you on the defensive end of the court. San Diego State is not only the number one seed, but they also are one of the hottest teams in the country as they have an eleven-game winning streak heading into the conference tournament.

Top contender: Utah State

Who is the last team to beat San Diego State? That would be Utah State. The Aggies have had the Aztecs number as of late. Utah State has beaten San Diego State twice this year in the regular season. The saying is it is hard to beat a team three times in the same year, but the Aggies have won three in a row against San Diego State dating back to the Mountain West Championship game last year.

Darkhorse team: Nevada

Unless something drastically happens the Mountain West Conference will be a multi-big league in 2021 for the NCAA tournament. One team that could help expand that list is Nevada. Grant Sherfield and teammate Desmond Cambridge Jr. could help the Wolfpack go on a run, and possibly cut down some nets to punch their ticket to the big dance.

Don’t count out Boise State or Colorado State

There is not much space between San Diego State at the top and Boise State who finished fourth in the regular-season standings. Boise State and Colorado State have the firepower to win the conference tournament as well. All it takes is a few days of playing really good basketball. Plus we all know anything can happen in March.
