There will be many candidates to consider for DePaul so let’s consider another assistant; the youngest and least-experienced of the bunch. Like has already been said, you don’t need years of experience under your belt to be a good head coach, but winning a national title as a player and as an assistant certainly helps the pedigree. Why not hire someone like Scheyer?

Scheyer starred in the Chicago area before starring at Duke. He briefly played professional basketball internationally before returning to the Duke bench as one of Mike Krzyzewski’s assistants. The Blue Devils won the national championship in 2015 in his first season and he’s certainly learned a lot in his years on the bench. Coaches like Steve Wojciechowski, Chris Collins, and Johnny Dawkins have had success at major conference teams after long stints on the Duke bench.

The Chicago native could do wonders with DePaul if the Blue Demons chose to go in this direction. The lack of coaching experience could worry some, but an experienced Duke guy like Scheyer knows the game and would be a fantastic hire at any school. There are many great choices for DePaul and for Scheyer in the future; but maybe this is the perfect match?
