28. Will Wade (LSU)

2 NCAA Tournaments (1-2)

After sitting on Shaka Smart’s bench as VCU marched to the Final Four, Wade has made a name for himself with success at Chattanooga and back at VCU as head coach. Since taking over LSU in 2017, there’s been a certain boost in the Tigers program, though the FBI investigation has certainly dulled Wade’s shine. He was suspended in 2019 when assistant Tony Benford led his Tigers to the Sweet Sixteen. How will Wade fare in this his first trip to the NCAA Tournament helming LSU?

27. Dan Hurley (Connecticut)

2 NCAA Tournaments (2-2)

After leading Rhode Island to a pair of NCAA Tournaments and wins, Hurley has led the Huskies back to the NCAA Tournament in his third season as head coach. Hurley built success basically from scratch at both Wagner and Rhode Island and is certainly off to a great start in doing the same with at Connecticut. We’ll have to wait a few more years to see what happens with the Huskies, now back in the Big East, but if this year was any indication, they hired a winner three years ago.

26. Fran McCaffery (Iowa)

9 NCAA Tournaments (5-9)

McCaffrey has been coaching for a long time but this might certainly be the best team he’s led to the NCAA Tournament. Long ago, he led Lehigh and UNC Greensboro to the Big Dance while also winning a pair of first-round games leading Siena. McCaffery has been entrenched at Iowa since 2010 and has put the pieces together to make some history this year, especially with one last run with Luka Garza.

25. Greg McDermott (Creighton)

8 NCAA Tournaments (3-8)

Though he almost derailed his career with comments a few weeks ago, McDermott continues to lead this Creighton program, one that he’s led for over a decade. Between there and Northern Iowa, he’s responsible for a great number of NCAA Tournament bids but has never led a team to the second weekend. McDermott faltered at Iowa State but has certainly done a good job making Creighton one of the best programs in the Big East these last few seasons.
