48. Wes Miller (UNC Greensboro)

1 NCAA Tournament (0-1)

Ever since taking over as head coach in Greensboro nearly a decade ago, Miller has turned around the program and made them one of the SoCon’s very best. The former Tar Heel guard is still very young despite his already long tenure with the Spartans. UNC Greensboro has been fantastic, winning 20+ games for five straight years, and this year Miller gets to show off his program on college basketball’s biggest stage.

47. Mark Schmidt (St. Bonaventure)

2 NCAA Tournaments (1-2)

St. Bonaventure was a program in complete disarray when Schmidt arrived in 2007, but he’s worked wonders over these last few years. The former Robert Morris coach led his Bonnies to the A-10 regular season and tournament championship this past year, standing out in an intriguing year for the conference. Even if Schmidt doesn’t have a boatload of postseason berths he’s still done one of the greatest coaching jobs of the last decade for turning around this Bonnies program and making them relevant again.

46. Steve Pikiell (Rutgers)

1 NCAA Tournament (0-1)

It’s hard to put into words just exactly what Pikiell has meant to Rutgers. It took him 11 seasons to lead Stony Brook to the NCAA Tournament but the results with the Scarlet Knights have been much quicker. Last season’s team was a certain lock for the NCAA Tournament, but this year’s team got the job done, ending a 30-year Tournament drought for Rutgers.

45. Ritchie McKay (Liberty)

2 NCAA Tournaments (1-2)

The former head coach at Portland State, Colorado State, Oregon State, and New Mexico has finally and certainly made his mark with the Flames. McKay has spent nine seasons coaching at Liberty and has won the Atlantic Sun in each of their first three seasons in the conference under his watch. His Flames upset 5-seed Mississippi State in 2019 and this former Tony Bennett assistant has put together another team ready to challenge for their March Madness moment.
