Texas Basketball looks to keep momentum into Round of 64 matchup
3. Jericho Sims is a problem for other teams down low
The senior forward from Minneapolis is dominating the paint this season. Jericho Sims is averaging nine points and seven boards a game this season but is hot right now coming off back-to-back double-doubles.
Sims scored 21 points and shot for 72% from the field in the Big 12 championship win over Oklahoma State. He also had 14 boards and three steals. However, his play still speaks much louder than his stats.
At 6’10’ Jericho Sims is a pain to be covered by. He can block the shot of nearly anyone in the country. Offensively he’s a force whenever he drives to the rim and always has the bounce to dunk over multiple defenders.
As one of the best players on this Texas team, Jericho Sims will be a big key to the Longhorns winning battles in the paint and winning games in this tournament.
4. Matt Coleman’s heating up at the right time
Matt Coleman is averaging nearly 50% shooting from the field on the year. Coleman scored a combined 49 points in the two games last week including 30 points in the Big 12 championship game where he shot for over 70% from the field.
Coleman is shooting on fire and doing so at the best time of the year. If he can keep up his form of the last few games he’ll be a pivotal player for Texas during this tournament run.
5. A loss in the first two rounds would be a massive letdown
This is easily one of the best Longhorn teams in recent if not all school history. They’re currently ranked 9th in the nation and are already in the midst of a run.
Many see this team as having a lot of potential to continue their run into their final four. With that said anything less than a sweet 16 will instead make this season one of the biggest disappointments in the school history.
