Texas Longhorns

The Longhorns have been going through some roster movement in the past couple of days and there very well could be more to come after that disastrous upset in the Big Dance to Abilene Christian. Matt Coleman is set to graduate and likely not coming back, but junior guards Andrew Jones and Courtney Ramey may go pro as well.

Walker’s defensive strengths and ability to put the ball in the basket would make him an ideal veteran replacement in case there are more guard departures make sense. But the lukewarm vote of approval by the school toward Shaka Smart’s job status may mean that he’s not completely safe, similar to what happened with Tom Herman over at football, getting canned several weeks later than a chance would normally occur. Too many moving pieces for Texas to be the ideal landing spot right now.

Vanderbilt Commodores

One of the biggest individual surprises of the season was Scotty Pippen Jr., who averaged a team-leading 20.8 ppg and 4.9 apg for the Commodores. The lead guard was fantastic and could very well go pro this offseason if he gets a good enough draft projection.

If he leaves, this becomes a double-edged point for Walker. There would be plenty of available minutes and playing time for the transfer to come in and take but the team would be nowhere near good enough to contend for an at-large bid in the SEC.

Among all six options, the ones that make the most sense would be Michigan State and Maryland, because there’s clarity on their backcourt for the upcoming season. Kansas can be included in that but their postseason concerns would make them the third-best choice.
