Overall impact of Duke Basketball landing five-star guard Trevor Keels
Kentucky Wildcats
When Kentucky knew that they weren’t going to land another five-star prospect in combo guard Hunter Sallis, they went and got involved with Keels. And of course, he would consider the offer and put them on the list, as the program’s great history of sending players to the NBA speaks for itself.
Even after the recently awful season, players are going to want to play for the Wildcats. Unfortunately for the program, Keels went to the only other comparable situation in the Blue Devils. But don’t be too upset Kentucky fans, as the coaching staff likely knew this was going to be the final answer and already had a backup plan.
One included landing Davidson grad transfer Kellan Grady, who averaged over 17 ppg in the past four seasons. The 6’5 guard is a natural two-guard whose shooting would be a major upgrade on the roster. And with him being a 5th-year senior, the Wildcats can get old, which has become a must for teams that want to do well overall.
Kentucky also got good news with freshman guard Devin Askew coming back and could also have Davion Mintz back for a 6th season too. And while BJ Boston has already announced his intentions to go pro, former five-star recruit Terrence Clarke is on the fence and could go either way. His return would be massive for the program and make Keels not even needed. And don’t think they’re done in the transfer portal just yet in case they want to add another shooter for next season.
