12 NCAA Basketball programs that should target Siena transfer Jalen Pickett
Pittsburgh Panthers
With starting point guard Xavier Johnson off to Indiana, that would leave rising sophomore guard Femi Odukale as the lone ball-handler left on the roster. He came on at the end of this past season after Johnson left but he still doesn’t have a ton of experience and that may be an issue playing an ACC schedule.
Pickett would add not only a talented player capable of playing in the ACC but also one with experience. He’d get plenty of minutes with the Panthers but the odds of winning at a high level aren’t high unless Justin Champagnie returns. But with plenty of high-level options likely to be available, the Panthers would have to make an elite sell for Pickett to join.
Seton Hall Pirates
The Pirates have been incredible in the transfer portal so far. They’ve landed All-AAC forward Alexis Yetna, 20 ppg scoring guard Jamir Harris, and Kadary Richmond, a versatile point-forward from Syracuse. But it’s important to note that the team still doesn’t have a true point guard on the roster so all this talent accumulation could be for none if there’s no facilitator to make all the pieces come together nicely.
Seton Hall also could be viewed as a “local” option, not too far away from Siena. Teams such as Syracuse and St. John’s would’ve been on this list but they have Joe Girard and Posh Alexander respectively on their rosters. Among the programs close to where Pickett is from and needs a point guard the most, the Pirates would be a great option.
