One of the best defensive players in the country

It’s a rare trait, to play elite defense, in today’s college game, where offensive stats are enamored by and glorified by the consumers of the product. It’s even harder to be able to guard 1-5. However, Edwards is one of the rare few.

Cutting into the passing lane and using his 6’6 length to intercept the pass and have the speed to drive by the defender and dunk.

One of the biggest influences behind Edwards decision was a winning culture. It doesn’t get much better than a conference championship and Final Four appearance from your future team.

In what should be one of the best defensive backcourts in the country, Edwards teams up with the team that allowed the second-fewest points in the country last season, at 58.2 per game.

Outside of Grimes declaring for the NBA, everyone else on the roster has the potential to come back another season, due to the COVID-19 eligibility rule.

That also includes AAC DPOTY Dejon Jarreau. Although Jarreau has received NBA buzz and has not made a decision to declare, he has the potential to come back

Edwards stats have been impressive on the defensive end, with 84 career steals and 39 blocks.

Marcus Sasser is just a sophomore and Tramon Mark put together a good freshman season, in hope of replacing Grimes.

Other Houston impact players that will join Edwards is UConn’s Josh Carlton and Cal State Bakersfield guard Taze Moore.
