Breaking down the 3 finalists for 5-star forward prospect Michael Foster
By Matt Melton
Florida State Seminoles
The Seminoles have consistently been one of the top teams in the ACC in recent years, and have had recent success with star forwards out of high school, most notably Patrick Williams and Scottie Barnes. Could Foster be next in that group?
The Seminoles will lose a good bit of talent off last season’s team that reached the Sweet 16, most notably in the frontcourt. RaiQuan Gray, Scottie Barnes, and Balsa Koprivica have all declared for the NBA Draft with intentions of staying in, which means the only real notable frontcourt depth that Florida State will return is experienced forward Malik Osborne who averaged 5.9 PPG and 4.5 RPG last season.
Florida State however also brings in a Top 5 ranked recruiting class headlined by 5-star forward Matthew Cleveland, but also brings in notable frontcourt depth including 4-star center John Butler and 3-star center Naheem McLeod. There would be talent surrounding Foster at every position if he chooses to take his talents to Tallahassee, which is why Florida State is arguably the most intriguing collegiate route.
Now Foster would start from day one and make an immediate impact wherever he chooses to take his talents, but the talent with the Seminoles is what makes them intriguing. Head coach Leonard Hamilton and the Seminoles also have a history of putting players in the NBA as high draft picks, and it’s clear why Foster could be the next.
If Foster were to end up in Tallahassee with the Seminoles, not only would it make Florida State a legit national title contender once again, but would benefit his draft stock immensely. An ideal situation to develop for a year with a history of previous success, Foster would not only be one of the best players in the country but showcase his talents against elite talent in the ACC constantly on a national stage.
