Davion Mitchell, Chris Duarte rises in latest 2021 NBA Draft Big Board
4. Jalen Green – G League Ignite Team
The number 4 prospect on my list is Jalen Green from the G League Ignite. He’s a 6’5 athletic guard that is known as a scorer. With the G League Ignite, he averaged 17.9 points on 46.1 percent from the field and 36.5 percent from three.
In his 15 G League games, he showed his ability to create his shot and looks to be a quality three-point shooter in the future. He has a chance to score a lot of points in the NBA but there are questions about the rest of his game. He is a little bit too isolation-heavy in the half-court and misses some easy reads. It would help him to improve as a passer and to improve as a defender.
Regardless, Green could end up being a 20 points a game scorer but to reach his ceiling he will need to improve on his defense and passing ability.
5. Johnathan Kuminga – G League Ignite Team
The number 5 prospect on my big board is another player who didn’t go to college and signed with the G League Ignite is Johnathan Kuminga. He averaged 15.8 points but struggled shooting from the field on 38.7 percent shooting from the field and 24.6 from three. Kuminga plays extremely hard has good size for a wing at 6’7 and with his size, strength and IQ is a solid defender. The biggest question with him is his jump shot. He shot a poor 24.6 percent from three at 62.5 percent from the line which needs to improve.
I think his jumper is better than the numbers have shown but he needs to improve it. If he can shot NBA average then he has a chance to become an all-star with his build and defensive potential but regardless should be a good role player.
6. JR Davion Mitchell – Baylor Bears
The Defensive Player of the year winner and All-American Davion Mitchell was an extremely important part of Baylor’s national championship team. He averaged 14.0 points a game on 44.7 percent three-point shooting while being able to lock up any opposing perimeter player on the other team witch earned him the nickname “off night”.
He a really quick guard who does a really good job getting to his pullup. He has been compared to Donovan Mitchell and he’s reminded me of him of how he creates his shot and uses ball screens.
His jump shot has improved significantly since he’s been at Baylor going from 32.4 percent as a shooter to 44.7 percent. There are questions about if he’s this good of a shooter. Free throw shooting is normally a good indicator of how good a three-point shooter is. He’s shot 66.3 percent and 64.1 from the line the last two seasons and needs to improve from there.
Regardless, Mitchell should shoot a good percentage from the three, and his ability to create his shot hit the pull-up along with being the best on-ball defender in the country should make him a quality player at the next level.
