Analyzing 5 NCAA Basketball finalists for Milwaukee transfer guard Te’Jon Lucas
DePaul Blue Demons
The lone midwest option on the list, playing in the city of Chicago and the Big East Conference may be of interest for Lucas. After losing starting guard and leading scorer Charlie Moore to the Miami Hurricanes, there’s a clear wide open spot at starting point guard for the Blue Demons.
They did land former top-100 prospect and Oregon guard Jalen Terry, along with Kansas guard Markese Jacobs but neither have much experience and wouldn’t be great options to start for next season. As a one-year rental of sorts, Lucas can play and allow the younger guards to develop at their own pace. The downside of this option is that DePaul, even with Lucas potentially joining the fold, wouldn’t be projected to finish anywhere better than last or second to last in league play.
Nevada Wolf Pack
After overperforming compared to expectations, Nevada looks to enter next season as a favorite to win the Mountain West. They’re bringing back All-Conference guard Grant Sherfield, who averaged 18.6 ppg and 6.1 apg last season. He, Desmond Cambridge (16.3 ppg), and Oregon incoming transfer Addison Patterson will make up an elite backcourt for next season.
Lucas could certainly join the rotation and have a role but the ball will be in Sherfield’s hands next season. And unless the Wolf Pack plays three-guard lineups, Lucas would have to be willing to come off the bench. This is a spot where the minutes and value may not add up compared to other options on this list.
