Analyzing top 6 uncommitted players in 2021 NCAA Basketball recruiting class
G TyTy Washington – No. 21 overall prospect
Teams involved: Kansas, Oregon, Kentucky, and Arizona
One of the biggest risers in the recruiting rankings in the past few months, the former Creighton Bluejay commit became arguably the top point guard free agent this offseason. His performance in last weekend’s Iverson Classic only solidified his five-star status, including displaying fantastic vision and winning the three-point shootout.
Washington has the chance to be a “one and done” NBA Draft prospect and has been pursued heavily by a number of big-name programs. The biggest is Kentucky, which currently doesn’t have any point guards on its roster. He fits the scheme Coach Calipari likes and has a similar skillset to Immanuel Quickley, who led the Wildcats and scoring and shot 44% from deep two years ago, before becoming a 1st round pick. Washington could do the same thing next year.
But don’t overlook the other teams after Washington. The Kansas Jayhawks are in need of another ball-handler, while the Arizona Wildcats are the hometown option for the Chandler, Arizona native. And even Oregon has shown a big interest to pair him with Will Richardson and Oklahoma transfer De’Vion Harmon.
In the end, this looks to come down to Kentucky and Arizona, who each can offer Washington the keys to the offense. Although Zona has the location edge, they also have a first-year head coach in Tommy Lloyd. The coaching edge should give the SEC program the guard they’ve been looking for.
