3. Texas Longhorns

Projected Starting Lineup:

PG: Andrew Jones

SG:  Courtney Ramey

SF: Matt Coleman

PF: Timmy Allen

C:  Dylan Disu

Although the Longhorns are placed at fourth in the conference at the moment, they could very well be in the thick of the Big 12 championship hunt in the middle of February.

Texas had among the flashiest off-seasons in the entire country. The Longhorns landed Chris Beard from Texas Tech and bring experience and transfers to the roster.

Possibly the best backcourt in the conference comes with two returning seniors in Andrew Jones and Matt Coleman. The icing on the cake comes from the landing of former Top 40 freshman Devin Askew.

Although Askew might not be called upon immediately to play point guard, he’s talented of a player to be sitting the bench, as Ramey becomes the head of the three-headed guard monster.

Utah’s Timmy Allen joins the fray as the two-time All-Pac 12 has been dominating the previous three seasons. His 15.6 points per game throughout his career, alongside near 48% from the field brings a different factor.

Texas is used to bringing in high-end freshmen in the frontcourt for a one-and-done to be a lottery pick.

Allen is far from the mold as he challenges Samuel, as the best center in the conference. Texas roster on paper looks loaded as a team to win the conference. The one concern I have is the complete coaching overhaul. An entirely new staff, plus a player in Allen that is used to carrying the load.

How that will play out is my concern, as Texas has had talented teams in the past, and has fallen short of expectation. Texas should get some major wins and is one of the four teams I would not be stunned to finish the season with hardwood.

Final Record: 25-6 (13-5)
