5. Kansas Jayhawks

Projected Starting Five:

G Joseph Yesufu
G Remy Martin
G Ochai Agbaji
F Jalen Wilson
C David McCormack

Literally in the middle of writing this article, former Arizona State guard Remy Martin announced he would be transferring to Kansas. A program that was already going to be one of the best ten teams in the country. I actually had them at 9 but with the addition of Maritn, the Jayhawks are sitting at 5.

Martin is easily the top transfer in the portal this season. The 6’0 guard averaged 19.1 points, 3.7 assists, and shot nearly 35% from outside last season for the Sun Devils. His transfer was sort of a surprise to most but I am sure Jayhawk fans are throwing a parade in Lawrence.

Martin will be paired with Joseph Yesufu who comes over from Drake. Yesufu took over as the starting point guard mid-way through the season and exploded onto the scene. A real junkyard dog kind of player who plays with an edge every minute he is on the court. Reminds me a lot of Russell Westbrooks approach to the game.

Coach Self not only brought talent in he is bringing some back. Ochai Agbaji lead the team in scoring last season, 14.1 points per game, and shot nearly 38% from deep. Jalen Wilson and David McCormack will be one of the best returning frontcourts in the country. Both are versatile defenders and really excel at getting to their spots and getting the looks they want offensively.

This Kansas team on paper might even be more skilled than the 2020 team that never got a chance to finish their season. With a plethora of ways this team can attack opponents on both sides of the court, they could end up being Gonzaga’s (spoiler) biggest threat at that top seed net season.
