NCAA Basketball: Updated way-too-early top 25 rankings for 2021-22 season
2. Villanova
Projected Starting Five:
G Collin Gillespie
G Justin Moore
G Caleb Daniels
F Jermaine Samuels
C Eric Dixon
The injury to Collin Gillespie really halted the Wildcat’s chances of making any noise in the NCAA tournament. an up and down season for coach Jay Wright’s standards. Getting Gillespie back for another season along with a few other key contributors, have his guys since again making noise before the season kicks off.
Collin Gillespie is the prodotypial Villanova point guard. Great shooter, great leader, always makes the right play and does things the right way. Learning from his time as a role player on the 2018 national title team really molded him into one of the best college basketball point guards in the last 5 or 6 seasons. I expected him to be a first-team all-American and lead his team to another 1 seed come tourney time.
Justin Moore and Jermain Samuels are two other starters back for Jay Wright. The two combined for almost 25 points and over five assists per contest. Both will have to pick up the void left behind by James Robinson-Earl if they want to be a top 5 team next season. But why shouldn’t we expect it? It just seems like everyone develops under Jay Wright, no need to count on anything else.
If a couple of recruits give Villanova quality minutes off the bench, the Wildcats will be competing for the top overall seed in March. This veteran program has a shot at another title, once again proving once again why Jay Wright is the top coach in the country.
