NBA Draft 2021: 5 players that would benefit from another year at school
3. SG Aaron Wiggins, Maryland
Not only has Aaron Wiggins declared for the 2021 NBA Draft – he’s even signed with an agent. Nevertheless, his eligibility remains intact for next season should he decide to withdraw his name from the process.
As a junior, Wiggins was one of the best all-around players on the Terrapins roster last season. He averaged 14.5 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game. He also shot a career-best 44.6 percent from the floor.
Wiggins also proved to be able to handle a heavy burden, something he may need to do at the next level. His 25.4 percent usage was 17th in the Big Ten and he played in 31 games for the second straight season, averaging 33.0 minutes per game during the last campaign.
Wiggins was an All-Big Ten Honorable Mention last season and he may be topping out on individual accomplishments at the school. Then again, making an All-Big Ten team and even having a shot at Big Ten Player of the Year could truly boost his stock.
In some mock drafts, Wiggins isn’t projected to be selected at all in this year’s draft. In some 2022 mock drafts, however, Wiggins has the look of a potential first-rounder.
With Fatts Russell and Qudus Wahab transferring in, Maryland could have a special season in 2021-22. Making it to the second weekend or further of the NCAA Tournament should only increase exposure for Wiggins’ game.
