NCAA Basketball: Ranking teams in play for 2022 guard Jalen Hood-Schifino
6. Georgetown Hoyas
I won’t say that the miracle run in the Big East Conference Tournament saved head coach Patrick Ewing’s job but it certainly kept the seat cool this offseason. However, the Hoyas are looking towards the bottom of the league again, with leading scorers Jamorko Pickett and Jahvon Blair gone. The good news is that five-star shooting guard Aminu Mohammed is coming in, joined by promising starting guard Dante Harris.
The concern here is two-fold. If Georgetown finishes 8th or worst in the Big East, Coach Ewing may be back on the hot seat. And Harris showed that he can be the lead guard so even if Mohammed is only around for one year, Hood-Schifino would have to play off-ball more than he would like to with this option.
5. Indiana Hoosiers
There’s certainly intrigue with new head coach Mike Woodson, most known for his time as head coach of the New York Knicks. His NBA ties could be of interest to Hood-Schifino but it’s still unknown how he’ll do as a college head coach. This roster for next season is in win-now mode with transfer Xavier Johnson and star forward Trayce Jackson-Davis, both of whom likely won’t be around by the time the recruit comes.
Besides the unknown regarding Coach Woodson, Indiana already has a top-30 combo guard around in freshman Tamar Bates. He and former five-star recruit Kristian Lander projects to be the backcourt in 2022-23, while four-star prospect C.J. Gunn is already committed to the 2022 class. This is an option where Hood-Schifino would have to share the ball for a coach we’re not sure of yet.
