3. Minnesota Timberwolves

After winning the lottery last season and pushing in their chips for D’Angelo Russell, giving the Warriors their 2021 first-round pick (top-three protected), the Timberwolves could again use some lottery luck. They had the sixth-worst record in the league last season, finishing with a 9.0% chance at the first pick.

The Timberwolves do have two young pieces in Anthony Edwards and Karl Anthony-Towns to build around, while Jaden McDaniels, Naz Reid, and Malik Beasley are all also under 24 and have shown they can be positive role players.

Like the Bulls, they lack a true lead playmaker needed to enhance their other players’ skill sets. With their spacing, Cunningham would thrive in the pick-and-roll. The Timberwolves could use another positive defender as well, finishing seventh in defensive efficiency last season.

Cunningham, Edwards, and Anthony-Towns would enter next season with an average age of just 22. The Western Conference is daunting, so their youth might make it hard to make the playoffs right away. But, that’s an exciting young core to build around, especially with Cunningham and Edwards on rookie contracts.
