Big 12 Basketball: Grading each team’s best recruiting class since realignment
By Andrew Tineo
West Virginia
Grade: B (No. 18, 2013 class)
Notable commits: PF Devin Williams (No. 11 PF, No. 54 overall), SF Remi Dibo JUCO (No. 3 SF, No.14 overall), PF Elijah Macon (No.12 PF, No. 65 overall)
Bob Huggins’ second class as a member of the Big 12 has been the best over the past decade for West Virginia.
Devin Williams lived up to expectation, with being a part of the 2015-2016 All-Big 12 Team, with an impressive career. Williams was second in the conference in rebound and ranked 20th in the country as a Junior.
Elijah Macon was a Top-65 recruit, that was never able to get consistent playing time. Daxter Miles was the most underrated player that performed well, being a four-year starter and making an All-Big 12 Tournament team in 2018.
The 2013 class had quite of few players, with eight commitments and three making serious contributions. Macon was the lone outlier. Dibo played one season with the Mountaineers and didn’t have a bad role.
Overall, for the second-best recruiting class, it lived up to the expectation. However, it’s hard to believe it exceeded expectations. The class as a whole made three Sweet Sixteen appearances but never had below nine losses.
Special shoutout to the class of 2019, which is the second-highest ranked class since being in the Big 12. That class consists of Sean McNeil, Jalen Bridges, Oscar Tshiebwe, and Miles McBride.
