NCAA Basketball: 8 teams that should target Minnesota transfer Marcus Carr
Arizona Wildcats
New head coach Tommy Lloyd has been aggressive in trying to find a true point guard this offseason after losing James Akinjo to Baylor. They currently have Kerr Kriisa, a former top-100 prospect who didn’t play much as he was behind Akinjo. And transfers Pelle Larsson and Justin Kier are capable of handling the ball a bit but at the moment, the PG spot is thin on the roster.
Carr could come in and be the undisputed leader of the offense, playing alongside Ąžuolas Tubelis and Bennedict Mathurin, who may be better than anyone the guard has been with at Pittsburgh and Minnesota. Coach Lloyd’s teams at Gonzaga have always had great point guards so I would trust him with Carr for one year, making it a win-win scenario.
Duke Blue Devils
What is Carr’s ultimate goal now that he’s coming back to college? Becoming a better draft prospect? Being in the national TV spotlight all season? Or maybe even being in a position to win a national title? The one spot that can offer that is Duke Basketball, already a projected preseason top-10 for next season, and with Carr, may have the choice for being No. 1.
The Blue Devils could use a true point guard capable of leading the offense, while also having experience. Sophomore guard Jeremy Roach is more of a combo rather than a true point, while top-100 freshman Jaylen Blakes is unproven. Carr would be the lone senior in the starting lineup and would thrive with the likes of Paolo Banchero and AJ Griffin alongside him. This option would give Carr the best chance to make the Final Four and finally get a win in ACC play.
