NCAA Basketball: 8 teams that should target Virginia Tech transfer Tyrece Radford
LSU Tigers
After losing San Jose State transfer Seneca Knight recently, there’s now room for Radford at the wing position. They have transfers Adam Miller and Xavier Pinson in the backcourt and Darius Days and five-star center Efton Reid as projected starters but they need someone that can defend and do the dirty work all around the court.
As the hometown option, Radford can go play for a team and benefit from any Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) opportunities. With the Virginia Tech transfer, the Tigers would be a top-15 team for next season and have one of the more balanced lineups in all of NCAA Basketball. He’d get around 30 minutes since he can play multiple positions and with a revamped roster, will have the edge thanks to his all-around play.
Marquette Golden Eagles
The Eagles solved one potential problem by landing Maryland transfer and Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year Darryl Morsell in the backcourt. But then a new issue emerged with leading scorer and rebounder Dawson Garcia entered the portal a few days ago. While Oklahoma transfer Kur Kuath can start at center and be a great defender, there’s a need for a rebounder that is also capable of scoring double figures.
Right now, the wing position is likely going to returning guard Greg Elliott or freshman Emarion Ellis. Radford would be a definite upgrade and be a great fit for head coach Shaka Smart’s defensive system. In fact, Marquette may be one of the best defensive teams in the country with this lineup. And it would give Radford a chance to be a focal point in the offense, as several projected starters aren’t known for scoring at all.
