North Carolina Tar Heels

The Tar Heels have gotten some great news this past week, landing Marquette transfer big man Dawson Garcia and top-100 class of 2022 point Seth Trimble. New head coach Hubert Davis has been filling up the roster for both this and next season, with currently few holes. Adding another big man next to Will Shaver should be the next goal but could a top-50 wing in Whitmore be next?

It’s tough to envision that, considering that UNC already has Kerwin Walton and former top-50 wing Puff Johnson, along with Virginia combo forward transfer Justin McCoy and incoming four-star freshman Dontrez Styles. Even with Whitmore’s raw talent, it’s hard to see him getting a lot of playing time in the next couple of years. But the prestige of the program and the opportunity to play for a top-15 team in the country will be a major selling point in this.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish

The Irish will have one of the most experienced rosters in the country next season, with six seniors on the roster. That includes guards Trey Wertz and Dane Goodwin, who each plays at the three-spot. The team has incoming three-star forward Doug Konieczny, Jr. joining but in comparison, Whitmore would get more playing time, while also being a focal point of the offense.

Notre Dame’s academics and clear path of playing time should be major selling points but this program is at a crossroads. This current group hasn’t made the NCAA Tournament and if they all leave after next year, leaves Whitmore on a roster that could be even worse than Miami on paper.
