(@Wesleyperk) – “Is Texas Tech a top-3 team in the Big 12, where do they sit at the national level?”

With the return of Terrence Shannon Jr, Mark Adams has put together the most talented roster Texas Tech has had since the 2019 team that was seconds away from a National Championship. That said, there’s certainly a strong argument to be made that Texas Tech is a top-three team in the Big 12.

Mark Adams has been able to retain three of TTU’s top-five scorers from last season while adding a multitude of talented transfers including Kevin Obanor, Bryson Williams, Davion Warren, & others. With the length & athleticism, the staff will have to work with, it wouldn’t shock me if Texas Tech maintains one of the top defenses in the country next season (again) while playing a more up-tempo style of ball on offense. Put simply, Texas Tech is not going to be a fun opponent to play with the personnel and scheme Adams will deploy.

On the offensive end, expect veterans Terrence Shannon Jr, Kevin McCullar, Bryson Williams, & Kevin Obanor to lead the way. All four of these guys have the ability to take over a game offensively and are capable of dropping 20 points on any given night. Couple this with the extremely deep bench Texas Tech will deploy and it’s hard not to love what you see on paper.

If I was taking a pre-season poll, I’d have Texas Tech around #15 and that’s being cautious with a new head coach & offensive scheme. There’s no doubt in my mind that this roster could crack the top-10 next season once they’re grooving.

Overall, I believe the national media is severely undervaluing the roster Mark Adams has built and I get the feeling he doesn’t mind being the underdog.
