2. Kentucky Wildcats

Previous Ranking: 3

The Wildcats entered the summer months with evident talent up and down their roster but added to that group in a big way over the last two months. Even despite losing a commitment from four-star Nolan Hickman, Kentucky has added multiple impact players including five-star TyTy Washington, along with Georgia transfer Sahvir Wheeler and Iowa transfer CJ Fredrick.

Add those players to an already talented group including West Virginia transfer Oscar Tshiebwe, Davidson transfer Kellan Grady, five-star Daimion Collins, and more, and it’s clear why the Wildcats are widely expected to bounce back after a disappointing 2020-21 season. Don’t be surprised if Kentucky is ranked the highest among any SEC team as we enter the 2021-22 season.

1. Alabama Crimson Tide

Previous Ranking: 1

While the gap has certainly decreased over the last couple of weeks, the defending regular-season and tournament champs remain the top team in the SEC as we inch closer to the 2021-22 season. Despite not adding anyone new to the roster, the Crimson Tide did lose Joshua Primo to the NBA, along with other notable names including Petty, Jones, Bruner, and Reese.

Head coach Nate Oats and the Tide are still the top teams in the SEC as they will enter the season loaded with talent headlined by five-star JD Davison, Jahvon Quinerly, Texas Tech transfer Nimari Burnett, and more. While the upcoming decision from leading-scorer Jaden Shackelford will certainly affect the Tide’s 2021-22 roster outlook, Alabama is still currently the top team in the SEC as we move closer to tip-off.

While there is obviously still some time until we officially tip-off the 2021-22 college basketball season, the rosters, in particular, are mostly set, aside from maybe a couple of players. Is this 1-14 what we should expect to see in the SEC in 2021-22, or are we in store for yet another unpredictable season from one of college basketball’s most exciting conferences?
