Big 12 Basketball: 5 biggest questions heading into 2021-22 season

Can Porter Moser make Oklahoma a tournament team in Year 1?
The amount of pieces that have been come in and out of the Sooners program in the off-season has been wild, to say the least. Lon Kruger retires, alongside Oklahoma’s three best players from last season leaving Norman.
However, Oklahoma got one of the most prized coaches in the market, with Loyola Chicago’s Porter Moser. Moser brought in Eastern Washington forward Tanner Groves, who became the talk of the first weekend in their matchup against Kansas.
His 35-point performance brings excitement and easily, will be the best player in the frontcourt, come November.
Fellow forward Ethan Chargois brings consistency, as he can deliver seven to 12 points a game while having a solid three-point shot at 6-foot-9.
The gems of the off-season, however, come from Eastern Illinois guard Marvin Johnson and Duke guard Jordan Goldwire. Johnson had an All-OVC-type season, with 15.3 points, alongside 4.7 assists. Johnson’s three-point shot is not there, but his passing and scoring ability makes him an immediate impact.
Goldwire’s issue at Duke was never finding a role and being an impact player. The Norocross, Georgia native has 27 starts in his career and best performance was a 14-point, five-rebound, five assists game in a win over Wake Forest.
Goldwire is going to have to take that next step, in order to be effective in the Big 12. The Sooners do return some key pieces from last season, in glue guy Elijah Harkless and guard Umoja Gibson, who delivered in key moments in 2020-21.
