Big 12 Basketball: 5 biggest questions heading into 2021-22 season
By Andrew Tineo
How much leash is left on Jamie Dixon in Fort Worth?
To answer the question above, Fisher will have a job at TCU at the end of the season, regardless of results. TCU’s basketball program has made one NCAA Tournament in the 21st century and the highest finish in the Big 12 standings was fifth.
Since the tournament appearance in the 2017-2018 season, the Horned Frogs’ record has gotten worse. Guard Mike Miles was among one of the most impressive freshmen in the Big 12, with 13.6 points and 3.1 assists, on 36% shooting from beyond the arc.
Miles is expected to be the go-to scorer for the Horned Frogs, especially with the attrition over the previous few months.
The leading scorer from last year declared for the NBA and center Kevin Samuel transferred to Florida Gulf Coast in the off-season.
Dixon did hit the jackpot through the portal with additions. The headlining pickup, being forward Emmanuel Miller from Texas A&M.
Miller was the Aggies’ best player last year, averaging 16.2 points and 8.2 rebounds, alongside a terrific 81.7% from the free throw line at 6-foot-7.
UT-Arlington guard Shahada Wells brings a three-point presence after being a top recruit out of the JUCO ranks, a year ago. Former five-star guard Micah Peavy comes from Texas Tech to return home to the D-FW area and Vanderbilt guard Damion Baugh should get some early minutes.
The Horned Frogs are talented and are expected to finish the season with an above .500 record. Due to the lack of historical success, Dixon’s leash is relatively loose and should be, unless TCU collapses and finishes last in the conference.
