Shooting Guard – Sardaar Calhoun

2020-21 stats: 5.3 points & 1.4 rebounds per game (13.9 min/game)

Before signing with Florida State last off-season, Sardaar Calhoun was a top-3 JUCO prospect in the country and held offers from Alabama, LSU, Texas, & others. Calhoun averaged18.9 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game for Missouri State West Plains while shooting nearly 46% from three-point range and 83% from the FT line. Sardaar had one of the more impressive JUCO highlight tapes you’ll ever see:

Last season at Florida State, Calhoun didn’t have much of a role due to their depth at the guard position. He did however appear in every game last season for the Seminoles and had his best outing against Miami where he put up 16 points, 3 assists, and 3 rebounds in just 24 minutes of play.

Calhoun is an elite athlete that can shoot the three at a very high level. Take a look at pictures of Sardaar and you will quickly see he’s built like an NFL wide receiver. He also has no fear of punishing the rim with highlight dunks when defenders don’t stay in front of him. He’s a high-character guy that will be a leader in the locker room and will have a much larger role at Texas Tech than he did at FSU.

His versatility and shooting ability make him extremely valuable and it wouldn’t surprise me if he’s one of Texas Tech’s best 3-pt shooters next season. He will also be an asset on the defensive side of the ball where he can use his athleticism and strength to rebound and perform at a high level in the no-middle defense Mark Adams will deploy.

Overall, it would not shock me if Calhoun ends up a double-digit scorer for the Red Raiders next season. He’s also one of my surprise candidates to have a breakout season next year.
