Wing – Terrence Shannon Jr.

2020-21 stats: 12.9 points, 4 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and 1 steal per game

Heading into the 2021-22 season, Terrence Shannon Jr is clearly one of the most valuable pieces of the Texas Tech roster. Terrence declared for the NBA draft shortly after last season concluded and many (including myself) thought he was a lock to stay in the draft, especially with Texas Tech undergoing a complete roster overhaul and a coaching change. Most mock drafts had Shannon Jr going in the middle of the second round and some NBA analysts even had him ranked in their top-25 overall.

Last season, Terrence was Texas Tech’s second-leading scorer despite being fourth in minutes per game for TTU. He also improved his 3-pt shooting tremendously from his freshman season (+10%) which is something I’d expect him to continue working on. TSJ is at his best using his athleticism and explosive first step to beat defenders to the rim and finish with authority. Adding a consistent shot to his toolbag and taking on a larger role next season will likely propel him into the first-round conversation for next year’s NBA draft.

On top of his offensive skillset, Terrence has become one of the better wing defenders in the Big 12 using his anticipation and athleticism to intercept passes that often lead to his infamous left-handed tomahawk dunks in transition.

If TSJ can improve his 3-pt % by even a couple percent from last season, good luck trying to guard this guy.
