NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Breaking down finalists for top-150 guard Quion Williams
Cincinnati Bearcats
Cincinnati has generated some buzz this offseason by hiring head coach Wes Miller and they’ve put together a solid roster in year one. Wes Miller has been widely recognized as one of the better young coaches in college basketball and should be able to recruit at a good level with his improved resources. There are still questions surrounding whether Miller can sustain his coaching success against higher-level competition but he can put those doubts to rest with a solid year one at Cincinnati.
Looking at some of UNC Greensboro’s stats from the last few seasons, Miller has maintained an adjusted defensive efficiency ranking in the top-75 for the last three seasons which is very impressive.
Overall, when looking at the Bearcats roster they have an abundance of young guards which certainly doesn’t play out well when trying to land a guy like Williams. However, having one of the more respected young head coaches in college basketball should keep them in the mix for the talented guard.
Summary
Quion Williams is a very impressive guard prospect and his tenacity and willingness to win are going to take him far in basketball. He’s also blessed with a great frame for a guard and is a good athlete. Williams will have plenty of talented teams to choose from, but with 4 of his final 9 teams being from the Big-12, it appears he could very well end up in that conference.
After talking with Williams it’s clear his main priority is to win and play in a system that will allow for him to flourish as a guard.
While Williams doesn’t have a timeframe in mind for a decision, he did tell me he will likely not be releasing another cut list and will choose between one of the teams in his top 9.
