NCAA Basketball Recruiting: Ranking 7 contenders for top-100 forward Malik Reneau
2. Florida State Seminoles
I did earlier mention concerns about Miami’s Coach Larranaga and Leonard Hamilton of the Seminoles is also over 70 years old. But there’s no comparison between these ACC programs, as Florida State has been a consistent NCAA Tournament team and has also been getting multiple players drafted each year.
After losing RaiQuan Gray, the power forward position is a little open, with Kentucky transfer Cam’Ron Fletcher and rising senior Malik Osborne set to get the most of those minutes. Reneau can find his way into what’s usually a 10-11 man rotation overall and his style of play will be welcomed to the Seminoles. He’s a great fit here and as long as a five-star prospect doesn’t over-recruited him in the future, can eventually be a starter on a quality team later on.
1. Florida Gators
There’s not a ton of depth in the frontcourt for the Gators, even with star forward Colin Castleton deciding to return for another year. He’ll likely be gone next offseason, while Boston College transfer forward CJ Felder is a solid “glue guy” but has a low ceiling. Depending on which seniors leave in 2022, Florida could have as many as eight available scholarships to work with.
After landing a ton of transfers, Florida also needs to add some youth and players with long-term potential. Reneau would be the ideal pickup, as he’s capable of getting minutes early but isn’t a surefire pro candidate, meaning that he’ll be a fixture in the frontcourt for years to come. And with the program being close to home and in the SEC, there are very few reasons why the Gators won’t be a contender in the top-100 forward’s sweepstakes.
