NCAA Basketball: 25 biggest offseason winners heading into 2021-22 season
Due to how the new rules and conditions played out this offseason, Michigan was involved with a lot of impactful decisions. They had a bunch of seniors, along with a pair of NBA Draft prospects in Franz Wagner and Hunter Dickinson. But in the end, I would say that the Big Ten program should be very happy with the results.
While Wagner went on to be a top-10 draft pick, All-American big man Dickinson decided to return, giving them Wolverines a favorite for Big Ten Player of the Year. He led the team with 14.1 ppg and 7.4 rpg and still has plenty of room for growth.
And while most of the seniors opted to leave, point guard Eli Brooks will be back, giving them a veteran and experienced ball-handler to run the offense. He’ll be paired with Coastal Carolina transfer and Sun Belt Player of the Year Devante Jones, who averaged nearly 20 ppg last season and can play both guard positions.
Of course, the most important offseason note for the program is that they have the No. 1 overall incoming recruiting class, a six-man group led by Moussa Diabate and Caleb Houstan. No one de-committed this offseason and all are set to arrive in Ann Arbor. And the team already is off to a good start in the 2022 class, landing top-100 commits, Dug McDaniel and Tarris Reed Jr. It might not end up being No. 1 again but Michigan will once again be a problem on the recruiting trail.
