1. Who are the early NCAA Tournament teams?

It’s never too early for a little ACC Bracketology, especially when it comes to projecting who will make the NCAA Tournament. The talent in ACC Basketball is still present, especially given last year’s result in the Covid-19 season.

Last season, seven teams made the NCAA Tournament for the fifth straight year with Clemson, Virginia, North Carolina, Georgia Tech, Florida State, Syracuse and Virginia Tech earning bids. Could ACC Basketball see another seven make the tournament or could more be on the horizon?

I’m going to go out on a limb here and project the ACC getting eight teams in this year’s NCAA Tournament. Florida State and Syracuse are always hard to count out as are the North Carolina Tar Heels and the Virginia Cavaliers’ defense always keeps them at the top of the conference.

It’s hard to imagine the Duke Blue Devils going out in Coach K’s final season without an appearance in the Big Dance, count them in. The last three spots go to the Virginia Tech Hokies, Louisville Cardinals, and the Clemson Tigers.

If there were to be bubble teams, put the NC State Wolfpack and Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on it early.

The Wolfpack had a rough start to the 2020-21 ACC season, losing eight of their first 10 games in conference action before winning five games in a row. They’ll need to have a better start to 2021-22.

The Yellow Jackets will have an adjustment to make without Wright and Alvarado, as stated earlier, so going in, they’ll need a leader to emerge for them outside of Michael Devoe.
