No. 6 Qudus Wahab – Maryland

Putting the Big Ten versus Big East argument aside, the 6-11 Qudus Wahab is coming to a conference where he will be matching up with Hunter Dickinson, Trevion Williams, and Kofi Cockburn on more than one occasion. All of them have the motivation to put a dent in his 12.7 points and 8.2 rebounds per game averages, and while he did make the Big East All-Tournament First Team last season, doing so this year in the Big Ten will be a different feat.

Wahab’s game has not developed past him being anything but a finisher in the paint, as his 59 percent, field goal percentage benefitted from Wahab attempting zero three-point shots. At 237 pounds he is a presence in the post that the other centers in the Big Ten will have to contend with.

A way some might be able to counter his offense is to make him play defense on the perimeter, a situation in which he can be exposed easily, whether he gets caught in a switch or not. His defensive liability on the perimeter will be a bitter pill head coach Mark Turgeon will have to swallow, simply due to the lack of options at center. This lack of options is going to provide Wahab with a lot of leash, especially since Dickinson, Williams, and Cockburn are not typically taking defenders off the dribble.

Simply due to the number of touches, he will get in the paint and how more effective he is than No. 9 on the list Filip Rebraca, Wahab almost makes the top five transfers coming to the Big Ten this season.
