NCAA Basketball: Indiana, Colorado and Iona playing abroad for 2021-22 preseason
Simpson excelling for Colorado
The Colorado Buffaloes opened a four-game series in Costa Rica with a 79-32 drubbing of Escazu Friday night at the Banco Nacional Arena in San Jose. The Buffs wasted little time jumping out to a 16-2 advantage as Jabari Walker started the game off cooking, tallying all 11 of his points during this frame as he nailed a trio of 3-pointers.
“It felt good,” Walker said. “Warming up I knew it was going to be a good day shooting-wise. I like the nets, I like the ball we were using. I got a good warm-up in so I was ready to go.”
Freshman guard KJ Simpson, who led the way for CU with 13 points, scored a variety of ways as he finished the game 5 of 8 from the field and 2 of 3 from beyond the arc. Keeshawn Barthelemy chipped in with 10 while Nique Clifford grabbed 10 boards and Lawson Lovering tallied eight points along with nine caroms.
The Buffaloes will play Colegio de Abogados, the third-place team in last year’s Costa Rican professional league on Saturday night. CU will then play a Costa Rica Select Team on Sunday and a third pro squad, Grecia, on Monday.
