SEC Basketball: 10 key questions looming for the 2021-22 season
1. What’s the NCAA Tournament forecast for the SEC?
Six teams from SEC basketball made the 2021 NCAA Tournament with the Alabama Crimson Tide, Arkansas Razorbacks, Florida Gators, LSU Tigers, Missouri Tigers and Tennessee Volunteers all playing in March Madness. At least four teams advanced to the second round for the fourth consecutive tournament in 2021.
When it comes to projecting this year’s field from the SEC. The early projections could be at six or even seven teams in this year’s NCAA Tournament. There will be plenty of teams on the bubble, that’s for sure.
The Crimson Tide made the most noise in 2020-21 in conference play, winning the regular-season title and conference tournament title while Nate Oats took home the SEC Coach of the Year award, so it’s hard to not count them in next season. Arkansas is in with the reasoning given in the last slide.
After missing last year’s tournament, it’s hard seeing the Wildcats miss back-to-back. LSU, Florida, and Tennessee bring back enough talent, new and old, to make things interesting come March.
The bubble should have fun deciding the fates of Missouri, Auburn, and Mississippi State Bulldogs to slug things out for a spot in the Big Dance. The Bulldogs made it to the NIT Championship for the first time in program history this past season.
While SEC basketball saw six teams selected in last year’s NCAA Tournament, eight is the league record. With all the talent spread around the league, it’s definitely possible.
