ACC Basketball: Top 20 impact transfers for 2021-22 season
6. Storm Murphy | 6’3 Guard | Virginia Tech Hokies
The addition of graduate transfer Storm Murphy has a chance to make the Virginia Tech Hokies really good as head coach Mike Young heads into Year 3 on the sidelines. With some holes to fill in the backcourt, Murphy is set to play a big role in 2021-22.
Much like current Hokies forward Keve Aluma, Murphy also played for Mike Young while he was the head coach at Wofford from 2017-19. With experience already playing for Young, the potential is there for Storm to do damage.
He started in 119 of his 126 appearances for the Terriers while producing 10.4 points, 3.7 assists, and 2.4 rebounds per contest. He’s turned into quite the sharpshooter and playmaker on the perimeter.
As a senior, he shot 40 percent from 3-point range while pouring in career-highs in scoring (17.8 ppg), assists (4.3 apg), and rebounds (3.3 rpg) while earning first-team All-SoCon honors.
He’s shown quite the knack for knocking down shots with efficiency. He also made a career-high 6.0 shots per game while shooting 47 percent from the field this past season.
Murphy has a chance to add playmaking and shooting from the arc to the Hokies rotation, a weak point when things got tough in 2020-21. He should make quite the combination in the backcourt alongside Wabisa Bede and Hunter Cattoor this upcoming season.
