ACC Basketball: Top 20 impact transfers for 2021-22 season
4. Caleb Mills | 6’3 Guard | Florida State Seminoles
The Florida State Seminoles struck it rich in the transfer portal when it was announced back in January that Caleb Mills would attend school after stepping away from the Houston Cougars program.
Mills was originally selected as the 2020-21 AAC Preseason Player of the Year with the Cougars. He battled through an ankle injury for much of the season but still managed to put up 9.8 points, 1.3 rebounds, and 1.3 steals per game through four games before stepping away for personal reasons after their Dec. 29 game against Tulsa.
His claim to original stardom at Houston began in 2019-20 with his All-AAC Rookie and All-AAC second-team selection as a freshman. He produced 13.2 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game while shooting 36.5 percent from behind the arc as quite the asset off the bench for the Cougars.
With a new location and a more established culture, it seems the sky is the limit for Mills with the Seminoles. He’ll add some strength in the perimeter shooting department to a team that likes to shoot the 3-ball with efficiency. Florida State finished first in 3-point field goal percentage (37.6 percent) this past season.
He’s a player that can make things happen with the ball in his hands at either guard position, giving Florida State yet another playmaker in the backcourt to work with in a rotation that can go nine men deep.
